Before I was in any faith community, I
had no idea whatsoever about doing any mission or what’s my mission as a Christian. I was merely a Christian by name.
I simply do what I think is right, go to mass on Sundays, and then do my thing at home like watching tv, playing video games,
eating and sleeping. I had no interest or plan of joining any religious organizations because I judged them and labeled them
as self-righteous bunch of people or should I say, hypocrites. And I’d say to myself, “I definitely don’t
want to be like them.”
But then, I eventually joined anyway, thanks
to my mother. And that time, I realized my mistake, it was wrong for me to judge all faith communities as hypocrites just
because of some few members who are still in the process of changing themselves for the better.
(Just
so you know, joining a faith community does not transform you right away into a better person, it takes time, and it requires
effort from you and a help from God.)
I later found out that being in community
is a good and wonderful thing. I started to grow maturely as a Christian and unknowingly filled the void within me. And before
I knew it, I started to change, I started to open up and reach out to others and doing things for them and the community.
And then I started to realize that I have
a mission. A mission to share the joy I found in community, and the joy of serving God through my brothers and sisters in
Christ. - Rommel Ocampo
